Sponsored Cycle Ride 2006
The 2006 Cycle Ride was blessed with fine weather, just right for enjoying the countryside. Which was just as well as many cyclists were disheartened by finding unmanned churches, some not even showing a “Welcome” notice. We need to make a real effort to get all churches to be welcoming to their visitors – after all, it is they who stand to benefit from funds raised. Having said this, many churches make a real effort which is much appreciated and encourages cyclists to visit again next time!
This year’s total is a little down on that for 2005 at £17,000 including Gift Aid, so we really do need to rally more support. In 2007, there is to be an emphasis on the “open church” approach, as the second Saturday in September is Heritage Day. All historic buildings are asked to open their doors to visitors whether cyclists or not.
I hope we shall manage to encourage more cyclists, or sponsored visitors using other means of transport, to take part and raise next year’s total.
